Standing Alert for Ireland and Scotland for early September

The earthquake listed below occurred in a known whale habitat 1350 km (840 miles) SW of REYKJAVIK, Iceland. This area is also known to produce tectonic/volcanic earthquakes accompanied by rapid vertical trusting motion. It has the potential to injury a pod of pelagic dolphins. MAGNITUDE 4.7 (GS) depth=10.0 km (default depth by geophysicist) Location= REYKJANES RIDGE System 19 AUG 2010 @ 04:57 AM local time lat =54.086N +/- 6.1 km lon =35.120W +/- 2.7 km 990 km (610 miles) SE of Qaqortoq (Julianehab), Greenland 1290 km (800 miles) S of Tasiilaq (Angmagssalik), Greenland 1470 km (910 miles) SE of NUUK (GODTHAB), Greenland. The surface currents from this area are now headed toward Ireland and the UK. Any injured pod would be expected to show up in this area sometime around the 1st of September. However, the pod would still be able to avoid a beach unless the seas and wind are heavy. Deafwhale expects beachings from this event to begin around the 7th of September and more likely occur along the shores of the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland.
